KMA UNDERTOOK 133 PROJECTS IN 2018, TARGETS 187 IN 2019
“In the field of project implementation, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) planned to undertake a total of Two Hundred and One projects. Out of this, One Hundred and Thirty-three (133) constituting sixty-six percent (60%) were implemented while Sixty-eight (68) representing Thirty-four percent (34%) was not implemented.
The above was contained in the SESSIONAL ADDRESS DELIVERED BY THE METROPOLITAN CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF KMA, HON. OSEI ASSIBEY ANTWI, DURING THE 1st ORDINARY MEETING OF THE 4th SESSION OF THE 7TH ASSEMBLY AT THE KMA CONFERENCE HALL ON FRIDAY 9TH APRIL, 2019
According to the mayor,out of the One Hundred and Thirty-three (133) activities implemented, fifty percent (50%) fell under the Development Dimension (DD) and Social Development which cover sectors such as Education, Health, Gender, Social Welfare, Water and Sanitation and Environment.
Hon.Antwi said some activities implemented under Development Dimension include the following:Completion of 6-Unit Classroom Blocks at Asafo, and Krofrom,Completion of 1 No. male/female ward at Kumasi South Hospital,LEAP activities extended to about 1200 beneficiaries,Construction of 40 No. Mechanized Boreholes with overhead tanks across the metropolis and Organization of durbars in all town councils on environmental sanitation.
In addition to this, nineteen percent (19%) of activities also fell under Economic Development which covers sectors like Tourism, Private Sector Development, Agriculture, Finance and Budget & Rating. Activities implemented under this include the following:Preparation 2019 Fee Fixing Resolution,Development & Distribution of the Kumasi Tourism & Investment guide brochure,Support for Food & Agriculture Sector Development Policy and Reconstruction of 2No. markets
However, out of the Sixty-eight (68) activities not implemented, Twenty-five percent (25%) fell under infrastructure provision with drains and culverts dominating. Other activities also fell under the Green Economy and Sports and Recreation sectors.
The Kumasi Mayor admitted that,their inability to implements these projects can be attributed to these challenges, among others; Inadequate funding, delays in the release of funds, especially the Common Fund andthe creation of the Five (5) Municipal Assemblies out of the KMA just around the first quarter of the year.
Adding that, going forward in 2019, “we have planned to undertake One Hundred and Eighty-seven projects in all. These are distributed under the various sectors as follows;
