USE MEMBERS OF VIGILANTE GROUPS TO REVAMP OTHER SPORTING ACTIVITIES –MEMBER OF ASH SPORTS C’TTEE TELLS GOV’T
The Government has been called upon not to just disband the various vigilante groups across the country and leave them ajar but should find something meaningful for them to do to enable them integrate smoothly into the society.
One the best alternative is for the government to use the members of the various vigilante groups most of whom are body builders to promote other dying sporting activities including; Tapydao, body builders’ competition, boxing among others which has won many countries several medals.
Nana Yaw Wiredu,a member of the Ashanti regional sports Committee which was recently launched by the Ashanti regional Minister,Simon Osei-Mensah made the call in an exclusive interview with The New Trust Newspaper.
He said apart from football other sporting activities mentioned lesser known in the country and now that that, the nation has united against the disbandment of vigilante groups, the Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports should urgently take advantage to engage members of these vigilante group who are well-build and have good fitness to revamp other sporting games.
“The country should not just disband them and fail to tap into their ability and strength since most of them can be used or re-trained for international competitions”, he advocated.
Nana Yaw Wiredu who is also a member of Ashanti regional Keep the City Clean and Green Committee and Assembly member for Ahinsan Estate electoral area said since the inauguration of their committee they have held a number of meetings to come out with a round Map to revamp sporting activities in the region especially other sporting activities apart from Football in the region.
He said the Committee was yet to present the official recommendations to the regional Minister for the way forward.
Aside that, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Sports Council, Professor Peter Twumasi has started making brilliant moves geared towards promoting of other sporting activities.
Nana Wiredu said their Committee was expected to meet him soon to make their recommendations known to him for the necessary support for its implementation.
